New Delhi: There was a lot of upheaval in the domestic stock markets on Thursday. It opened with an edge but lost it in no time. Investors booked profits in select stocks amid softening in Asian markets. The weak opening of the rupee against the dollar also dampened investor morale. The rupee opened 16 paise weaker than the US currency.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex closed at 41,198.66 points on Wednesday. On Thursday, it opened strong at 41,380.14 points. Its high level remained the same. From the beginning, the market took hold of the bears. During their selling spree, this sensitive index reached 41,023.13 points.

In the last trading session, the US market closed with an increase. However, its impact on Asian markets was not seen. All Asian markets opened with a fall. It also affected the domestic market. Softness was observed in all the indices. The biggest decline was in metal, banks, FMCG and infrastructure.

In morning trading, 8 out of 30 stocks of Sensex were trading with gains. Whereas 22 were in decline. Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank, Reliance and Nestle were the biggest casualties. Shares of Tata Steel have fallen by 2 per cent.
